Vanuatu consists of 83 islands with most of the country's population living in rural areas and outer islands. The larger towns of Port Villa and Luganville have populations in the tens of thousands. The three official languages in Vanuatu are English, French and Bislama, which is a pidgin language. There are however 113 distinctive languages nationwide making Vanuatu one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world.

Vanuatu has so many tours, activities and sites to visit that it would be impossible to fit it all into one trip. For those not aware Vanuatu is the original birthplace of the modern day ‘Bungee jump’ and there is an adventure around every corner.

For visitors looking to learn more about the cultures in Vanuatu there are many art festivals, and cultural events scheduled throughout the year open to the public. Here you will see a traditional costumes, dancers, music and ceremonies.

Vanuatu has a very strong cultural and traditional background which has continued through generations for thousands of years. Vanuatu is very special in that every aspect of a persons life is celebrated with a constant cycle of rituals and events. In the northern areas positions of status are measured by how much you can give away in terms of pigs and mats. In the central regions the people follow a hereditary chief who reigns over the community. In the southern areas titles are bestowed on certain men also making them chiefs.
