Espiritu Santo Island is Vanuatu’s largest island and is considered one of the most unique. There are a number of smaller tropical islands surrounding Espiritu Santo with white sandy beaches, coconut plans and tropical jungle. There are so many activities available on the island that you would need a spent a lifetime on the island getting around them all. From game fishing, kayaking, diving to river tours, 4x4 safaris, cultural village trips and much more.
The main island has many blue water swimming holes scattered around the islands interior. These are all connected through underground caverns and caves which weave their way under Majestic mountains and ravines covered in thick rainforest. The caves are now very popular with tourist for cave diving expeditions. The swimming holes provide a snorkeling experience found nowhere else in the world.
Espiritu Santo is the resting place of many of World War II remnants. During the war over 100,000 troops and support staff were stationed on the island and the remains of B17 bombers, fighter planes, and more are scattered around the island and in the surround ocean. The most notable is of the 22,000 ton troopship the SS ‘President Coolidge’ and the destroyer ‘USS Tucker’
Espiritu Santo is home to one of Vanuatu’s first National Parks, Big Bay Conservation area, which protects Kauri forests, endemic orchids and rare jungle birds and animals.
