Taveuni Island is also known as the Mystery Island of Fiji with its magnificent corals reefs, steep volcanic mountains, mangroves, dense rainforests and unique wildlife. Not to mention the wonderful people you will meet on the island.
Taveuni is still very traditional and has fewer crowds than many of the islands in Fiji. This is ideal if you are looking privacy and adventure. You can explore Bouma National Park which has recently been declared a World Heritage Area. With its many waterfalls, swimming holes, rainforests and exotic birds and animals Bouma is a must for any visitor.
You can also visit Lavena Beach Nature Reserve, Waitabu Marine Park, Prince Charles Beach, Mount Uluiqalau, Waitavala Natural Waterslide, the mangrove forests at Natuvu Naba Rua, or the blow hole at Vuna. There is so much to see and do on Taveuni that you will need more than a night or two to see it all.
In Polynesian history the people of Taveuni were known as some of the Pacific’s most feared warriors and many battles took place against Tongan invaders. There are still many remnants of these wars scattered around the island. There is an old fortress, and burial ground located near Bouma for those wanting to look into Taveuni’s past.
