Beqa Island (pronounced mbengga) is located 10 kilometres to the North of Fiji’s main island of Viti Levu, covers a land mass of 36 square kilometres and is 462 at its highest point.

Beqa island boasts a fringing reef around the entire island and a barrier reef which is 68 kilometres in length around the islands lagoon. Both reefs are made up of many colourful coral and marine formations.

Beqa island is a haven for both marine life and indigenous mammals, reptiles and plants. Flying foxes, fruit bats, mongoose, sea snakes, lizards, skinks, geckos, frogs can be seen on the island. Dolphins and turtles are also seen in the waters around the island

Beqa has 9 coastal villages which form the Beqa district. Each village uses a communal generator to create power and all transport around the island is by boat. Beqa has no roads, but does have a narrow footpath that winds around parts of the island.
